Striker makes immediate impact

Leiston

Striker Simon Thomas will hope to build on his impressive debut for Ryman Premier Leiston on Wednesday night in the Suffolk Senior Cup.

The 29-year-old, pictured, signed from Premier Division rivals Canvey Island in time to play in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Billericay and could start again at Brantham Athletic in the competition’s quarter finals.

Thomas scored five times in 21 appearances this season for Canvey and left in search of regular first team football. He brings a wealth of experience to the Blues having played in the Football League with Crystal Palace, Darlington and Rotherham United before spending time in the Football Conference with Boreham Wood and Ebbsfleet United.

If the striker doesn't play in midweek his next chance to impress manager Danny Laws comes on Saturday when Leiston are away to Wealdstone in the Ryman Premier.
