Whitstable Town's Nicky Southall says he released striker Mo Takaloo in a bid to free up his Ryman South budget and make a splash in the transfer market.

Southall is hunting a top striker to lead the line at the goal-shy Oystermen who have scored four goals in their last seven games. Former Maidstone and Ashford forward Takaloo has scored just twice in Town’s eight games this season and has been told that he's making way for any reinforcements his manager can bring in.

Southall told www.kentonline.co.uk: "We need a shake up and I’m looking to release one or two to free up some money in the budget. It’s just not worked out with Mo, not for a lack of effort on his part and we wish him the best."

Three of Town's goals arrived in one match against Chipstead and Southall revealed on Thursday that he's in advanced talks with at least three targets.

He added: "I’ve met with three forwards from clubs in higher divisions this week and talked to them about coming here. We are trying to address the problems. We need someone who’s going to stick the ball in the net. I am thankful to the Chairman who has put together a great package to try and get someone on board.

"If we could get one of them, in particular, it would be a real coup for us. Things are progressing and we will hear on Thursday or Friday. Hopefully, if he chooses to come to us, the club will release his signature in time for him to play in Guernsey this weekend."
