Sudbury honour their heroes

Kingsmarsh falls silent to remember the fallen- and to honour their families

Recently we featured an appeal by AFC Sudbury, who were asking for help to track down the families of five former players or officials who fought during the First World War. Well we’re delighted to report that their search was incredibly successful, and before Saturday’s match against Basildon United Corporal Robert Charles Bristow, Captain Raymond Linay Armes, Lt Colonel William Morris Armes, Private James William Moulton and Lance Corporal Harry Edward Malyon were honoured in the presence of their proud descendants.

The efforts of club archivist Darren Witt, who also enlisted help from the Royal British Legion, Sudbury Museum Trust and BBC Radio Suffolk, brought together a large number of family members- each of whom was presented with a biography of their relative, along with photographs taken prior to the conflict. Each family will soon receive a Lifetime Season Ticket in a show of gratitude from the club, and Kingsmarsh will also have its own Garden of Remembrance in which their quintet of heroes will be permanently celebrated.
