Supreme Engraving Awards UK- Performance of the Month, February 2019

By Ian Townsend

Working out our Performance of the Month award winners for February was a struggle. But after a number of debates and discussions, we finally made a decision!

There were so many performances worthy of consideration for this award, but we eventually whittled down the list and came up with a result.

Our victors are as follows:

Premier Division: When Worthing walked out at Woodside Road to take on relegation-threatened Harlow Town, the home fans expected a difficult match. After all, the Hawks had recently defeated fellow playoff contenders Lewes and Haringey Borough, and were scrapping for their lives. It was bound to be a close, tense encounter, wasn’t it?

Well…no. The Mackerel Men made light of any concerns their fans may have had, walloping home NINE goals, with Ollie Pearce getting four of them, to record the biggest victory of the Premier Division season. Congratulations to Adam Hinshelwood and his merry men, who are deserved winners of February’s trophy.

North Division: Playoff contenders Heybridge Swifts must have expected their trip to Bostik newcomers Felixstowe and Walton United would be difficult; but perhaps not quite how difficult. In front of four hundred fans Jordan Matthews, Josh Kerridge and Rhys Henry handed Julian Dicks’ men something of a thrashing, and earned themselves our February plaudits. Congratulations to the Seasiders.

South Central Division: We had so many contenders for this award that we struggled to make a decision, but in the end we decided that you couldn’t ignore a side who scored eight goals. On that note, our winners are- of course- Hayes & Yeading United, for their eight-one victory over Hertford Town. Our league-leaders have scored one hundred and nine league goals this season, and this was only their second-biggest victory of the campaign, but we shouldn’t hold that against them. Congratulations to all at the Skyex.

South East Division: Given that last month we gave this award to Herne Bay, it seems rather appropriate that they hand the banner to a side who gave them a damn good thrashing- and that side were our runaway leaders Cray Wanderers. Bay’s two previous games had seen them give a hiding to Greenwich Borough and promotion-chasing Hastings United, so they must have arrived at Hayes Lane in confident mood- but that confidence didn’t last, as Wands worked their magic and fired home six goals without reply. Junior Dadson got four of them, including a second-half hat trick.
