Supreme Trophies and Engraving - Performance of the Month, March 2019

By Ian Townsend

There were many nominations, but here are the Performance of the Month Award Winners for March, as decided by the Bostik jury!

Our March victors are as follows:

Premier Division: Wingate and Finchley’s trip to Harlow Town was a fixture which had ‘relegation six pointer’ written all over it. A tense, dour, close-fought encounter typical of such matches was expected- but the side from Summers Lane had other ideas. Within twenty-one minutes they were four-nil up, and it was five shortly after the half hour, before the rest of the match was a little more sedate, the sides scoring only two goals each!

This isn’t the first time this season that the Blues have won this award, which is proof- if anyone needed it- that when they are good, they are very good indeed. Many congratulations.

North Division: Every month we have a collection of nominations for this award, and there were a number of merit-worthy performances during March- but, in truth, when one of the contenders wins nine-nil there’s nowhere else you can go, is there?

It has been an exceptional season for Bowers and Pitsea, but when they entertained a Barking side who themselves were on a run of three straight victories and had just defeated playoff-bound Heybridge Swifts, nobody expected a massacre. Sadly for the visitors, that’s exactly what occurred- a superlative performance which saw five different names on the scoresheet despite the fact that David Knight got four on his own. Congrats to all at the Len Salmon.

South Central Division: Runaway leaders Hayes & Yeading United have lost only three league matches all season. Without the efforts of Marlow that would be only one.

Marlow have had an exceptional season. With only twenty five league goals conceded, only Bowers & Pitsea from our entire league have a better defensive record. They’ve been no slouches going forward, either! On 9th March they headed to the Skyex and a Kameron English double did the double! Marlow also became the only side to win at Hayes this season. Well done to all at Oak Tree Road.

South East Division: Something remarkable happened in March. Champions-elect Cray Wanderers saw their crown slip a little, as they lost- twice! One of those defeats was against second placed Hastings United, but we decided that their trip to the Kentish seaside- and subsequent journey home with no points- was most worthy of praise. Accordingly, our March winners are Whitstable Town, who turned relegation worries into mid-table security by taking thirteen points out of fifteen, the last three of those coming against our leaders due to a goal from Harry Stannard. Well done to all at the Belmont.
