The Bostik League and Prostate Cancer UK: nearly £8000 raised but the fight continues

By Ian Townsend

Bostik League partnership with Prostate Cancer UK continues for Non League Day

When the Isthmian League announced that Prostate Cancer UK were our charity partners for last season, Mike Summers, the charity’s Football Partnership Project Manager, explained that the disease killed one man every hour in the UK.

Twelve months later, that figure is one man every forty-five minutes. Two UK men will die of prostate cancer whilst you watch a football match.

Our clubs raised a magnificent £7,700 for the charity last season, but the work being done to raise awareness of the disease and fund efforts to combat it continues. This season Prostate Cancer UK continues its partnership with Non League Day, and their Community Fundraising Manager Seren Evans is asking for all of our clubs and supporters to step up and support their efforts. She explains:

'1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime in the UK. Recently this has included Nick Robinson, the Bostik League Chairman, to whom your support is particularly personal and heartfelt.

Your support and the engagement of your fans is helping us beat a disease affecting thousands of men across the UK. Connecting with the fans of the Bostik League is a brilliant way to help make more people aware of the most common cancer in men and raise much needed cash to fight this disease.

To raise money to help beat prostate cancer this Non-League Day, Prostate Cancer UK is asking their supporters to organise a walk to their local club, hold a match day collection or run a half time activity in conjunction with the club. If your club would like to support them this year please email football@prostatecanceruk.org to find out more, and request additional Prostate Cancer UK pin badges or fundraising and health awareness materials.'

League Chairman Nick Robinson added:

“As you will understand, this is a cause that is very important to me. I would urge all of our clubs to get involved on Non League Day, and would like to thank you all for your incredible efforts so far.”

Please let us know about your fundraising ideas so that we can feature them here. Together, we can tackle this dreadful disease.
