This one's a keeper...

...and so's the other one, as Lewes recruit and promote to start a battle for the number one shirt next season

Lewes yesterday announced that they had signed Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Billy Collings- but have not guaranteed him the number one shirt for the new campaign. Instead, manager Darren Freeman wants him to battle with Development Squad keeper Nathan Stroomberg to be the first name on the teamsheet.

Collings has played in the Isthmian League previously, having made four appearances on loan to Hendon in 2016/17 when they finished eighteenth- a season when the Greens used six goalkeepers, none of whom made more than nineteen matches, which perhaps goes some way to explain their inconsistent campaign! Prior to turning out at the Amex he was on the books of Reading.

Stroomberg has been part of a very successful Development side, and has also gained vital experience with Saltdean United and Hassocks in the SCEFL. He made his first team debut as the Rooks won promotion in 2018, but with Lewis Carey making fifty three appearances last season wasn't able to get another chance. Well he has one now, as Lewis has left the club to pursue a different career path entirely!
