Thursday's Premier Division action review

Ryman League Premier Division

There were two matches in the Ryman Premier on Thursday night and both had a significance in the race for the play-off places, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Mid-table Grays Athletic entertained a Bognor Regis Town outfit who were looking to return to the top five. And the encounter at Mill Field saw the Rocks edge a seven-goal thriller to move into fourth place, two points above a now fifth-placed Maidstone United and still with a game in hand.

However, things didn`t look good for the Sussex visitors as they trailed 3-1 at half-time! Leroy Griffiths after 10 minutes and a Joao Carlos brace in the 30th and 38th minutes gave the Blues their 3-0 lead.

Crucially, Dan Sackman reduced the arrears right on the interval whistle and then Kane Wills on 61 minutes, Ollie Pearce 10 minutes later and Arron Hopkinson on 76 minutes, scored the comeback goals. Grays` misery was completed when they had Ryan Kirby sent-off in the final minute.

Bognor are now level on points with third-placed AFC Hornchurch after they were held to a 1-1 draw at the Beveree by mid-table Hampton & Richmond Borough.

The Beavers were just five minutes away from a surprise win over their promotion-chasing visitors after they led through Justyn Roberts` goal seven minutes into the second half when Urchins top scorer George Purcell grabbed an 85th minute equaliser to keep them in the race for a top five finish.
