Top Rankin sees ten-man Hendon through

HENDON went through to the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup with a 2-1 home victory over Conference South club Eastbourne Borough last night (Tuesday), despite falling behind and going down to ten men early in extra time.

The first 90 minutes were scoreless but Darren Lok put the visitors ahead in the 92nd minute and Hendon had Scott Cousins sent off, leaving them with a formidable task.

Michael Murray equalised with a penalty four minutes into the second period and the comeback was completed in the final minute when Isaiah Rankin grabbed the winner. Hendon are the fifth Ryman League club safely through to the final qualifying round and they will visit Corby or Histon, who replay tonight.

Thurrock, though, are out, beaten 3-1 at home by Welling. Goals by Joe Healy and Lee Clarke put the visitors 2-0 up in 20 minutes. Matt Turpin pulled one back on the half-hour but Healy restored Welling’s two-goal advantage in the 63rd minute.
