Touchline test for departing stalwart

Wroxham's former skipper Daniel Self has left the Ryman League to move into management in the Eastern Counties League.

The Yachtsmen announced on Friday that the 30-year-old defender, pictured, had left Trafford Park to fulfill his ambitions of moving into management after accepting an offer to become the assistant-manager at neighbouring Diss Town.

Self, who joined the Ryman North club back in 2007 from Norwich United and was a member of the 2010 FA Vase Final side, left on a high after scoring a 25 yard free-kick to complete last weekend's 8-0 rout of Burnham Ramblers.

The Norfolk club's former captain and stalwart departed with their best wishes and manager Stuart Larter is backing the former Norwich City, Great Yarmouth Town, Lowestoft Town, Acle United, Dereham Town and Norwich United player to be success at the ECL Premier Division club.

Larter said: "I was very keen to retain him but he’s decided that it’s a good move for him and that’s something I totally respect. He’s been a massive and great servant to Wroxham and we’ve parted on very good terms.

"I think he’ll do a great job at Diss and they’ll certainly gain from him going there. Selfy is someone the club and I will miss."
