Enfield Town overcome the challenge of AFC Hornchurch to win the Velocity Trophy

Something rather strange happened in the Velocity (Alan Turvey) Trophy Final, held at Aveley FC's Parkside last night. Billy Bricknell failed to score a hat trick! Indeed, there was an even bigger shock- he failed to score at all!

That said, he wouldn't have been too unhappy, seeing as he did pick up a winners medal for the third year in a row- as his Enfield Town side ran out 2-0 winners despite the best efforts of opponents AFC Hornchurch.

Neither side came into the Final in particularly good form, the five places and twelve points between them in the Bostik Premier Division table failing to tell the tale of their recent results, both sides failing to pick up many points. The Towners were perhaps slight favourites, being the higher placed of the two, but the last time they met, back in February, it had been the Urchins who had won out; a two-nil victory perhaps giving them a psychological advantage? A crowd of six hundred and seventeen braved the M25 to find out.

After a goalless first half, when we did finally get some goals they both came within six minutes of each other. In the 57th minute Town's Mickey Parcell got up a head of steam down the right, sent in a cross, and there was Joshua Davison waiting to put the ball in the net. Sean Marks had the chance to equalise for the Urchins a few minutes later but couldn't quite manage it, and the next goal was a killer for Hornchurch, as Sam Chaney showed a clean pair of heels to their defence and fired home to make it two.

The Urchins tried to respond, and Joe Wright was forced to make a good save from Marks before Charlie Stimson headed narrowly wide- but there were chances at the other end, two, Bricknell bringing the best out of Callum Chafer and then later hitting the post.

And then it was over, and we had an Enfield celebration. Congratulations to all at Donkey Lane- and thanks to Phil Davison for the images.

...and Sam Chaney celebrates the second!
