Travel to Kent also fraught with difficulties...

By Ian Townsend

...but at least the trains work (occasionally)!

After our article this morning on travel difficulties in Sussex, we've been contacted by a number of Kentish supporters and officials who have pointed our it's hardly a bed of roses in the Garden of England either! Folkestone Invicta and Isthmian League Director Neil Pilcher perhaps summed up their frustrations:

'The M23 speed restrictions in Sussex are at the end (or start depending which way you are going!) of the SMART Motorway conversion for the M20 which has the same from Junctions 3-5 (details here). There are also overnight road closures around that area (we had to use the M2 returning from Corinthian-Casuals the other evening) which seem to be random, although there are usually short notice closure warnings.

Then, to compound matters they are also building a new slip road around Ashford and so there are speed restrictions from Junctions 8-9 (for about 3.5 miles around Ashford), (details here).'

When we pointed out that Kent did, at least, have high-speed rail connections, Neil explained that these are quite expensive and don't always seem very high speed! And from experience, he has a point.

Perhaps the moral of this story is to plan your trips carefully this season, and to leave early so that at least if you encounter no problems you'll have time to sample some marvellous Bostik League hospitality in a collection of excellent club houses? Or perhaps that's just called looking on the bright side.

Our apologies for turning the Bostik League news pages into an elongated travel report. This is Ian Traffic handing you back to your normal station (no, not a railway station, as particularly if you're in Sussex they have no trains).

Where next?
