Tuesday's Ryman North action review

By David Watters

AFC Sudbury moved to within three points of Ryman North leaders Cray Wanderers on Tuesday night after winning 3-0 at second-bottom Waltham Abbey, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

It was goalless at the break at Capershotts before Joey Maybanks gave the visitors the lead nine minutes into the second half. Luke Callander doubled Sudbury`s advantage on 68 minutes and seven minutes later it was game over with Callander`s second.

Fourth-placed AFC Hornchurch were left frustrated as they were held to a goalless draw at Bridge Road by Harlow Town.

Phoenix Sports are now ninth and moved above hosts Maldon & Tiptree after winning 3-2 at the Wallace Binder Group Stadium.

The Jammers had to play for 78 minutes with ten-men after they had Gavin Greenfield dismissed with a straight red card after 22 minutes.

Russell Bedford duly converted the resulting penalty to give the visitors a lead that lasted barely five minutes as Darren Mills equalised.

Mills then put the ten-men in front four minutes before half-time but Ricky Freeman bagged a brace on 58 and 63 minutes to see the Kent side home.

Witham Town moved seven points clear of the drop zone after winning 3-0 at the Village Glass Stadium against third-bottom Redbridge.

Ryan Charles gave the home side a 17th minute lead that Lee Townrow doubled six minutes before the break. And Townrow scored his second and Witham`s third five minutes from time.
