Tuesday's Ryman North action review

By David Watters

AFC Sudbury maintained their ten-point lead at the top of the Ryman North table on Tuesday night with a 2-0 win at the Wallace Binder Group Stadium over mid-table Maldon & Tiptree, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Sudbury avenged a home defeat from earlier in the season by coming away with all three points, courtesy of a goal in each half.

Jack Wilkinson scored direct from a free-kick in added on time at the end of the first half - his first goal since returning to the club. The second came from George Clarke on 68 minutes, the youngster slotting the ball under the advancing Maldon goalkeeper.

Second-placed Harlow Town, who possess two games in hand over the leaders, eased to a 4-0 win at The Arena against third-bottom Wroxham.

Junior Dadson maintained his good scoring form with the Hawks` opener after just five minutes. Half-an-hour later Dadson added his and Harlow`s second.

Alex Read made it game over with a third just past the hour-mark and a Cain Eagleton own goal 18 minutes from time added icing on the cake for the Hawks.

Tilbury went down to their third successive defeat to play-off chasing rivals Cheshunt at Theobalds Lane.

It looked as though the Dockers were going to end their indifferent run when goals from Neil Richmond after 11 minutes and then Kurt Smith three minutes after half-time gave them a 2-0 cushion.

But two goals in three minutes midway through the second half from Luke Marshall and Liam Hope pulled the Ambers back on level terms. And nine minutes from time, Hope grabbed his second to win it for the home side.

Thamesmead Town`s outside hopes of mounting a play-off challenge received a boost after edging a seven-goal thriller at the Oakside Stadium against second-bottom Redbridge.

Jack Barry gave Mead a good start with a goal inside the opening two minutes. And then Theo Fairweather-Johnson doubled their advantage in the 10th minute.

But the Motormen battled back and a brace from Charlie Portway – son of former Non-League goalscoring legend Steve – in the 21st and 31st minutes pulled them level.

Fairweather-Johnson bagged his second nine minutes after the break to restore Mead`s lead and Jack Barry added a fourth with 10 minutes to go, only for sub Jay Knight to make it a nervy finale by reducing the arrears two minutes later.

Fourth-bottom Waltham Abbey pulled three points clear of the drop zone after a 2-1 win against Dereham Town at Capershotts.

A brace from Christian Assombalonga – brother of Britt – after 43 and 89 minutes won it for the Abbots, despite a Ryan Crisp reply in injury-time.
