Tuesday's Ryman Premier action review

Ryman League Premier Division

Wealdstone were held to a goalless draw at home by play-off chasing Lowestoft Town on Tuesday night, so mathematically, they still can't be crowned champions of the Ryman Premier just yet, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

However, a win on Saturday against Grays Athletic should see the Stones up as title winners. Fourth-placed Kingstonian also had to be content with a point from a 0-0 draw in Suffolk against mid-table Leiston and are now two points clear of sixth-placed Bognor Regis Town.

However, the K`s will be kicking themselves as they played against ten-men for all-but four minutes of the second half after David Head was dismissed.

A third goalless draw took place at New Lodge between Billericay Town and Bury Town – two teams will little left to play for apart from pride.

But there were goals in the three games involving teams near the bottom of the table.

Carshalton, already doomed to the drop, shared a 1-1 Colston Avenue draw with Grays Athletic – the Essex side`s third successive stalemate.

The Robins got off to a great start when Kingsley Aikhionbare gave them an early fourth minute lead. However, they weren`t able to capitalise and Joao Carlos equalised with 14 minutes remaining.

East Thurrock United slipped to a disappointing 4-1 home defeat to Margate, leaving the Rocks three points behind fourth-bottom Wingate & Finchley.

Charlie Allen gave Terry Brown`s side a 27th minute lead that Mitchell Nelson added to in first half stoppage time. Three minutes after the break Anthony Riviere made it game over with Gate`s third to which Allen added his second on the hour-mark – Tom Stephen`s penalty a couple of minutes later being all East Thurrock could muster in response.

And their chances of a avoiding the drop took another blow when they discovered that fellow strugglers Enfield Town had picked up maximum points at home to Lewes.

Town trailed to a 24th minute Luke Blewden effort but fought back in the final 15 minutes to level through sub Tyler Campbell and then win it five minutes from the end, thanks to Liam Hope.
