Tuesday's Ryman Premier action review

Ryman League Premier Division

Maidstone United recovered from the shock of losing 3-0 against Enfield Town last Saturday to move four points clear at the top of the Ryman Premier table on Tuesday night with a 2-1 win at Ram Meadow against bottom side Bury Town, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

However, if Stones are to win promotion, they are certainly going about it the hard way!

Things looked bleak again for Jay Saunders` side when they fell behind to a goal from Joe Whight six minutes into the second half. And then five minutes later, things got even worse for the Stones when they had recent signing, striker Billy Bricknell, sent-off for foul and abusive language.

But then two goals inside two minutes from Jack Parkinson and Frannie Collin midway through the half gave Maidstone victory and a massive boost in their quest for the title.

The brilliance of Enfield Town keeper Nathan McDonald was not enough to prevent Dulwich Hamlet moving up to second place in the table with a 1-0 win.

Enfield were looking to continue their fine run of form following victory at table-toppers Maidstone. The Hamlet lined up with new loan signing Serge Makofo up front and it was the Whitehawk loanee who was to grab the only goal of the game in the 19th minute.

Tuesday`s other fixture saw Metropolitan Police move into fourth place in the table, although they will have been disappointed to have only managed one point against a Canvey Island side who haven`t won since December 13th.

Ryan James gave the Met a 23rd minute lead that on-loan Enoch Showumni cancelled out just shy of the hour-mark.
