Tuesday's Ryman Premier review

Ryman League Premier Division

Maidstone United returned to the top of the Ryman League Premier Division table after a 4-2 win at Wingate & Finchley on Tuesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Frannie Collin gave the Stones the boost of an early sixth minute lead and then Fabio Saraiva doubled the visitors` advantage 13 minutes later. However, the struggling hosts mounted a comeback, cancelling out those efforts with goals from Olu Sogbanmu in the 32nd and 47th minutes. But Saraiva equalised on 65 minutes and then completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot with three minutes remaining to complete the victory.

Bognor Regis Town moved into the play-off places after a comprehensive 4-1 success against fellow contenders Lowestoft Town at Nyewood Lane.

The Trawlerboys` long midweek trek down to the Sussex coast started well enough and they went ahead after 25 minutes through Chris Henderson. But that was as good as it got for the visitors as Terry Dodd bagged a brace either side of the half-time break to put the Rocks ahead. He then completed hat-trick in the 49th minute to make it 3-1, with Aaron Hopkinson adding a fourth just four minutes later.

John Sands was the night's third hat-trick hero as his Canvey Island side came back from 3-0 down at half-time to salvage a point against Lewes at the Prospects Stadium.

The Rooks took the lead after only eight minutes when a cross from the left wing found Nathan Crabb unmarked at the far post to open the scoring. The lead was doubled three minutes later when Crabb made no mistake after a defensive error. And when on 28 minutes Lewes added a third through Luke Blewden, home fans feared a drubbing. But Sands pulled one back on the hour-mark, another three minutes and on 76 minutes completed Canvey's remarkable comeback.
