Unwanted nose job delaying return

Hampton & Richmond Borough's Tom Hickey is plotting a return to Ryman Premier action by the end of February after revealing the extent of his nasty facial injury.

The midfielder's nose was broken in last Saturday's 4-0 victory over Carshalton, a blow to the Beavers with player and club in form. On Thursday the 20-year-old told Borough's official website - www.hamptonfc.net - that he is returning to hospital on Monday to have his nose 're-broken' so he'll be on the sidelines for around six weeks.

Hickey, pictured, said: "It's a real shame, the injury has happened at totally the wrong time as things are going so well at the moment. I went straight to the hospital after Saturday's match and had to wait for the person that specialises in nose and throat problems because it was such a bad break.

"Now have to wait for swelling to go down and I'm then having it pushed back. It's not nice clearly, and I don't look my best! It's frustrating too because I had just returned from suspension, I was really enjoying my football."

He added: "But I'm determined to come back from this at the end of February and hopefully the team will be in a good position when I'm given the all clear to return to action. It will be a long five or six weeks!"
