On Sunday 10th September, and if you don't happen to be in Guernsey or Thamesmead, we've got some fantastic veterans football for you. More than that, it will give you the chance to catch up with some of our Isthmian players of yesteryear and see Aveley's new stadium, Parkside, in all its glory.
Kicking off at 3PM, the famous Middlesex Wanderers will be singing their battle cry, placing their lucky lamb in the back of the net, and then trying with all of their might to defeat an Isthmian Select XI managed by East Thurrock United boss John Coventry. John, who last year reached the milestone of 500 games in charge of Rocks, has even been known to pull on his boots occasionally so might just be taking on the role of player/manager! Wanderers will be led by Steve Ward, as you will recall a legend with Canvey Island and Maidstone United, and Andy Leese, manager of our very own Enfield Town.
Admission will be free, refreshments will be served, and there will be a bucket collection for our charity partners.
So go along, dig deep and have a good time.
