Former Scotland and Manchester United manager Tommy Docherty will be the guest of honour when the Middlesex Wanderers host their annual dinner next month.

A regular on football's after-dinner speaking circuit, Docherty, pictured, will be following in the footsteps of Billy Wright, Sir Alf Ramsay, Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Bobby Robson and Denis Law when he takes the floor at the event on Saturday 16 November at the Imperial Hotel in London's Russell Square.

Now 85, Docherty will keep guests well entertained at the fund-raiser after a long and varied career at the top levels of the game as both a player and manager.

Between 1948-49 and 1961-62 'The Doc' made 454 first team appearances for Celtic, Preston North End, Arsenal and Chelsea and represented Scotland 25 times. As a Manager he oversaw more than 800 matches for Chelsea, Manchester United, Derby County, Queens Park Rangers, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Rotherham United, Aston Villa, Sydney Olympic, Preston North End, South Melbourne, Porto, Altrincham and Scotland.

Wanderers AFC have been sporting ambassadors since 1905 and count Sir Bobby Charlton as their President. Organisers say the event will follow their usual format with 'Wanderers Whispers and conviviality' and for the first time will also host an exhibition of the club’s memorabilia archive.

Tickets for the event which starts at 7.30pm are priced at £55. For more information contact Middlesex Wanderers AFC's Hon Social Secretary Colm Hickey via email at: colmhickey77@gmail.com.
