We Woz Robbed in '59

New book charts the glory days of Tooting & Mitcham United

How long can you hold a grudge? Well Tooting & Mitcham United supporter Jeff Brooks has managed almost sixty years- and now he's written a book about it! 'We Wuz Robbed in '59' is more than a book about a grudge, however; it harks back to a period when Cliff Richard was young and 'vulgar' and is crammed full of joy and nostalgia in equal measure, bringing to life a period in football history so vividly that you can almost smell the Bovril.

Chronicling one of the key years in the history of the Terrors, and covering their magnificent cup run of 1959- when Bournemouth and Northampton Town were put to the sword- the robbery happened against Nottingham Forest in the Third Round. The Division One side turned out at Sandy Lane in front of a crowd of more than fourteen thousand, and the majority of that number were delighted when the Terrors stormed into a 2-0 lead. An own goal gave Forest hope, and then the referee committed grand larceny, awarding the away side a penalty for an extremely dubious hand ball. Forest narrowly won the replay, and went on to lift the trophy at Wembley.

You can buy a copy- and we'd recommend it, as it's a great read- at the Terrors home match with Uxbridge; but in the slim possibility you won't be at Imperial Fields this weekend you can also purchase it directly from Jeff. Priced at ten pounds (with £4.90 postage and packing), place your order via email, and pay either via Bank Transfer or via cheque- he will send you his address/payment details upon receipt of your email.
