Wednesday's Ryman Premier action review

Ryman League Premier Division

Newly-promoted Grays Athletic moved to the top of the embryonic Ryman Premier table after a hard-fought win against Leiston at the New Recreation Ground on Wednesday night, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

A goal four minutes from time saw Leiston slip to a first defeat after winning their opening game of the campaign on Saturday, a 4-1 home win over Cray Wanderers.

Jeff Hammond gave the groundsharing hosts an 11th minute lead that Joe Jefford equalised six minutes later. Leon Lalite restored the Blues' advantage four minutes before half-time but the visitors were back on terms nine minutes after the break, Jefford again the scorer.

But despite controlling the majority of the second half, Leiston were undone by an 86th minute goal from Joao Carlos who grabbed all three points for Grays.
