Wednesday's Ryman Premier action review

Ryman League Premier Division

There were a couple of matches in the Ryman Premier on Wednesday night with both involving the play-off and relegation issues, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

At the top end of the table, Metropolitan Police moved back into the top five after a hard-fought 1-0 win at Mill Field against mid-table Grays Athletic.

The Met dominated the opening half, but, despite the home side improving in the second period, it was the visitors who snatched the only goal of the game in the 64th minute through Matt Pattison.

The other game saw bottom-markers Bury Town move closer towards Ryman North after suffering a 4-0 drubbing at Fetcham Grove against Leatherhead, who moved into twelfth place.

Jerry Nnamani gave the Tanners a 16th minute lead that a Vasieleious Karagiannis penalty doubled right on the stroke of half-time.

However, it wasn`t until the final eight minutes when Kiernan Hughes-Mason bagged a brace, that the home side ran away with it.

Defeat leaves the Suffolk outfit eleven points adrift of the safety mark with games running out.
