Wilson joins Bloor at Saffrons

FORMER Eastbourne Borough manager Garry Wilson, whose long reign at Priory Lane ended earlier this year, has accepted an invitation from Eastbourne Town boss to assist with the Ryman South club's first team.

The genial Scot has been scouting and coaching since leaving the Eastbourne Borough hot seat in early 2012 and is pleased to be back in the dugout again. He will continue to combine his scouting and coaching work with his Eastbourne Town duties and he is sure they will complement one another.

Wilson said, "I am very pleased to have received Danny's offer. I have enjoyed my other football work since leaving Borough but there's nothing quite like being involved on a matchday. This opportunity with this fine club, offers me everything I wanted. The timing is right, I live locally, I like Danny and his management team and I know plenty of the players at the Saffrons. Also, I won't have my phone ringing at 10 pm on a Friday night either, and that's a bonus for me. Danny has to deal with that!" he joked.

"My time at Priory Lane was fantastic. I have so many great memories and made so many friends. The club and the people will always hold a special place with me. However, it's time to start another chapter with new challenges and I like this one. Danny and his staff, along with chairman David Jenkins, have moved Eastbourne Town forwards. It is now a progressive club that offers much to its community, be they players or supporters."

He added, "Wednesday's game against Merstham was my first and I loved it. The lads went in front, fell behind and turned things around to win by the odd goal in five. There's a momentum here and if I can help Danny and the players then I will be more than satisfied."

Bloor commented, "In Garry Wilson, we have secured the services and support of the most successful manager of a Sussex team in modern times. Having worked with him previously, I knew immediately who I wanted to assist me with first team affairs, so you can imaging my delight when my approach was met with a knowing and willing nod of approval. Garry Wilson has kindly agreed to help me with what we're trying to build here at the Saffrons."

He added, "Garry is excited at being involved again, having rested and re-charged his batteries. His CV bears the closest scrutiny, and his record with our friends at Priory Lane is both very well known and well documented.

"He is someone I respect enormously and someone I'm really looking forward to working with. He knows many of our players and will, no doubt, prove to be a great 'signing' for Eastbourne Town FC. I could not be more pleased at having him at The Saffrons with us."
