Witham keep their hopes alive

By Peter Butcher

GOALS were in short supply in the five Ryman North matches tonight (Tuesday). Only six were scored, all by home teams, and half of them by Witham who maintained their outside play-off hopes by beating Waltham Abbey 3-0.

Daniel Lopes opened the scoring a minute before half-time and nabbed his second just before the hour. Danny Emmanuel made it three with 11 minutes left.

Brentwood’s hopes of getting into play-off contention with their mountain of games in hand suffered a setback at Cheshunt, where they went down to a 78th-minute goal by Corey Whitely.

Leon Antoine’s 18th-minute strike was enough for Sudbury against Waltham Forest and Ware put five points between themselves and bottom club Ilford as Elliot King’s 74th minute goal saw off Tilbury.

There was no scoring at all at Needham Market, who are now the only team in the league without a home win after they were held by Wroxham. They have drawn seven and lost seven on their own patch.
