Witham Town to help Finley to walk without pain

Young Cerebral Palsy sufferer to be mascot- and club to help raise funds to fund life-changing surgery

On Saturday Witham Town will be treating a young fan to a day to remember- making him matchday mascot and also helping his family to raise funds to pay for life-changing medical treatment. Finley, who is three and a half, has cerebral palsy and currently walks with a walking frame, but the nature of his condition means that he will become wheelchair bound in the future if nothing changes. There is, however, a chance to make his future look rather different, with help from Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Finley’s mum, Aimee, explains:

‘In May 2018, Finley received some fantastic news. After a range of tests, the doctors at Great Ormond Street offered him the chance of life-changing surgery called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). SDR is a procedure which will ease Finley’s muscle tightness and offer him a chance to walk without pain and to thrive, rather than to end up not being able to walk at all.

Unfortunately, SDR is an extremely expensive procedure which is not funded by the NHS. The procedure costs £50,000 when all pre and post op costs are taken into consideration. We are trying to raise the funds to give a special little boy a chance to live the life he so desperately wants to live.’

Aimee contacted her home town club, Witham Town FC, to see whether they could help, and they immediately leapt into action, organising a bucket collection for this Saturday’s match against Mildenhall Town and giving Finley the chance to be the team’s lucky charm for the day!

If you are going to the game, we’d urge you to give what you can- and if you’re not, we’d urge you to do the same! Finley has a Just Giving page HERE, and we’re sure he and his family would be very grateful were you to make a donation.

Have a wonderful day Finley, and much love from all at the Bostik League.
