Young guns hailed as true champs!

Billericay Town's next generation of stars have been hailed as true champions by Blues boss Craig Edwards after winning the Ryman U21 League's North Division in some style with a game to spare.

The Essex club's young guns hammered Great Wakering Rovers 10-0 on Tuesday night to take the title in their penultimate outing of the season and set up a champions of champions clash with the Ryman U21 League's South Division winners Worthing next month.

With a vastly superior goal difference over second placed AFC Hornchurch heading into the clash at New Lodge, the Ryman Premier club's youngsters only needed a point to be crowned champions but blew Rovers away to emphatically book their berth against the Rebels in the play-off final at Harlow Town on Saturday 7 May.

Hailing their performance on Wednesday, Billericay boss Edwards said: "Our young guns were in some style as the they plundered ten unanswered goals at home against against a Wakering side that although well beaten never threw in the towel.

"The boys have been in unstoppable form, scoring an incredible 35 goals in their last seven games whilst conceding just three. It's been a wonderful, contrasting week for the club as we remembered the glorious Vase years of the 70's, seen our young ladies sides triumph and now the stars of the future romp to the title. Congratulations to you all. You are true Champions."

Worthing's youngsters won the Ryman U21 League's South Division at the start of April with two games to spare, clinching the title with a 5-1 win over Herne Bay.

The Ryman U21 League expanded to 23 clubs this season after its successful launch at the start of the 2013-14 campaign by 20 pilot clubs playing in North and South divisions, Enfield Town and Maidstone United their respective inaugural champions.

Unique in the top levels of Non-League football, the league was founded to give more clubs the chance to bridge the gap between their first teams and existing youth set-ups.
