A Bay quartet

By Ian Townsend

Troy Howard, Daniel Haastrup, Archie Burnett and Liam Friend are the latest arrivals at Herne Bay

Troy Howard, a winger, spent some last season with Margate. Troy moved to Hartsdown Park from Deal Town- although it was really a return for the former Hartsdown Park Academy product, who can play anywhere down the right hand side, including at full back. He ended up back at Deal on loan, and left Gate after making only seven appearances before playing twice for Bay.

Daniel Haastrup spent some time in Ireland with St Patricks Athletic and Shamrock Rovers as a youth player, and also played some youth football with Tottenham Hotspur. Last season he made three appearances for Ramsgate- indeed his debut was in a Kent Cup match against Bay- and previously turned out in the SCEFL for Rusthall.

Archie Burnett, a midfielder, has quite a bit of Isthmian experience despite his tender years. As a Bromley player he had blown spells at Leatherhead, Cray Wanderers and Margate. He also had a loan spell in National League South, where he turned out for Tonbridge Angels.

Liam Friend becomes player/coach at the club. The centre back moves to the coast from Ashford United, where he played thirty nine times last season. He was also part of the Nuts and Bolts side which lost to Bay in the 21-22 Pitching In Isthmian South East Play Off Final.

Liam played for Folkestone Invicta for more than a decade, a period which cemented him in club folklore and saw him win two promotions. He moved on to Margate, and became a mainstay of the Blues defence before moving on to Ramsgate in the summer of 2019. He made twenty nine appearances during our abortive 2019-20 season, and then went back to Margate for the 20-21 campaign, making eleven appearances before our world fell apart again.

He then had some time with Chatham Town before joining the Nuts and Bolts.
