A Friendly Round Up: Tuesday 8th September 2020

By Ian Townsend

As we approach the start of the season, here's a round up of what, for some, will be the last friendly match before the real business starts

A number of our clubs played in pre-season friendlies last night. Given there is no central record of these, this round up is made up of what we've gleaned from social media- please don't expect it to be entirely comprehensive!

Carshalton Athletic put out a rather experimental and repeatedly changed line up at home to Beaconsfield Town, and it showed as they fell to a five-two defeat. Clunis and Samuels scored for the Robins.

Cheshunt hasted Dagenham and Redbridge and fell to a two-one defeat, whilst Horsham hosted Dartford and lost three-one, Rob O'Toole with the Hornets goal.

Cray Wanderers defeated Welling United three-one, with goals from Carlse, Taylor and Parker. You can read more here, and our headline image comes from hilligerpix.com

Hornchurch fell three-one- that's becoming a rather common scoreline- at home to Maidstone United. Hassan scored for the Urchins.

Leatherhead won four-three at Whyteleafe, in an all-green clash. Great Evans (2), Ryan Huckle and Stefan Brown scored for the Tanners, whilst we know that Gondoh scored for the hosts but don't know who got the rest.

Lewes and South Park drew nil-nil before the Rooks won a practice penalty shootout, whilst Ashford United and Margate drew two-two. Ufuah and Richards scored for Gate, whilst we don't know who scored for the Nuts and Bolts.

Merstham defeated East Grinstead Town two-one. Ekpiteta got both for the Moatsiders, Jerry Amoo hit the target for the Wasps.

Potters Bar Town defeated Great Wakering Rovers two-nil. Charles and Ward-Cochrane scored for the Scholars.

Basildon United defeated Heybridge Swifts Under 23 side by five goals to one, Nyanja (2), Howard, Hornsley and Marsh scoring for the Bees, whilst Bury Town fell to a three-one defeat at Needham Market, goalscorer unknown.

Maldon and Tiptree defeated a Colchester United XI by three goals to two, with goals from Barnwell, McClenaghan and a trialist, whilst Romford 'travelled' to Barking, went four-nil up, and lost five-four! Owusu, Dixon (3) and Luke scored for the Blues, we don't know who notched for the Boro.

Bedfont Sports drew one-one with Chesham United, Charlie Postance with the goal, whilst Chalfont St Peter fell two-nil to an Oxford United XI. Chertsey Town fell four-nil against Hampton and Richmond Borough.

Hanwell Town defeated North Greenford United by eight goals to nil, whilst Harlow Town travelled to Sittingbourne and fell three-nil, with goals for the Brickies from returning hero Andy Drury and two from Vance Bola.

Northwood travelled to Harrow Borough and left with a four-four draw, Luke Jones, Amin Belaid and Trialists scoring for Woods.

Tooting and Mitcham United hosted Haywards Heath Town, and the Pitching In Isthmian South East side travelled home down the A23 with a four-one win. Nathan daly scored for the Terrors, Nico Cotton and Reece Hallard (2) were amongst the scorers for Heath.

Ware hosted Hendon, and the greens won two-one. Reece Crowter scored for the Blues.

Herne Bay warmed up for the weekend's FA Cup trip to Hastings United by defeating Dover Athletic three-one. Kamara, Ansah and Bola scored for Bay.

VCD Athletic lost four-one to a full strength Dorking Wanderers side. Vickers goalscorer unknown.

Whitehawk drew four-all with St Francis Rangers. Clark (2), Paine and Munt scored for the Hawks.

And that's your lot! Unless you know different and we've missed something...

Where next?

Romford- apparently- sign striker May We've had no signing news as yet from Romford, but Ashford United have confirmed the move of Jay May
A Maldon catch up The last few days have seen a number of Maldon & Tiptree signings (whilst we've been galavanting around Kent). Let's have a catch up.
