A friendly Saturday round up

By Ian Townsend

We had some giant slaying, and lots of goals. Hopefully our clubs will be just as good when the competitive football starts next weekend!

Next Saturday competitive football starts once more, as a number of our clubs kick off in the FA Cup and Hornchurch host Warrington Rylands in the Pitching In Non League Super Cup. On that note we won’t have many more friendlies to round up, but here- according to social media- is what happened yesterday.

Ashford Utd scored two as Folkestone Invicta came to call- but the visitors got three. Sterling and an own goal gave Invicta an early two goal cushion, Leppard and Tashi-Jay Kwayie notched for the Nuts and Bolts, and Wright got what turned out to be the winner for the visitors.

Bedfont Sports went goal mad as Walton Casuals came to call, winning six-one, whilst Barking continued their positive pre-season with a three-nil win over visiting VCD Athletic, with goals from Heatley, MacDonald and Fairhead completing the rout. Photographs from that one here.

Brightlingsea Regent didn’t have such a positive outcome as visiting Altrincham won that one by five goals to nil.

Canvey Island fell to home defeat against Bowers and Pitsea, the only goal coming three minutes into added time from Leahy, whilst another home defeat came at Chichester City, who saw Basingstoke Town score two second half goals. Conor Lynch got the both for Town.

Corinthian defeated Leatherhead by two goals to one, and Cray Valley PM held Welling United to a one-one draw. Hill scored for the Millers.

Eastbourne Borough hosted Lewes, and the Rooks left with an impressive three-two victory, scorers unknown but pics available here, whilst Felixstowe and Walton United defeated Chelmsford City one-nil with a goal from Jordy Matthews.

Grays Athletic led until ten minutes from time as they hosted National League South Braintree Town, the match ending one-one. Danny Gould got the Blues goal.

Great Wakering Rovers lost four-one to travelling Hornchurch, Stimson, Ruff and Nash (2) scoring for our FA Trophy winners, whilst Harlow Town smashed six past Tilbury, the Dockers goal coming from Phillips.

Harrow Borough took on Bracknell Town and we’ve no idea what happened as both clubs are keeping it secret, but we do know that Hastings United fell three-nil as they hosted Carshalton Athletic. We’ve no idea who scored, though.

Harefield Utd and Uxbridge didn’t manage a goal between them, apparently, whilst Herne Bay and Cray Wanderers got one each at the seaside. Balarabe scored for Cray.

Horsham saw Chris Smith give them a late win against Metropolitan Police, two-one. Charlie Harris got the Hornets opener.

Kingstonian and Tonbridge Angels drew two-two at King George’s Field, Banton and Ajakaiye scoring for the K’s, whilst Maldon and Tiptree fell at home to Cambridge City, Kemp getting the Jammers goal before City got two. Daniel Ajakaiye’s celebration pic is courtesy of Simon Roe, we suspect- let us know if it isn't and we'll add a link to the rest of them when it arrives!

Merstham held Hampton & Richmond Borough to a two-all draw on a big day at Moatside, whilst Margate had a fabulous afternoon at Ramsgate, winning five-two. Greenhalgh got a first half hat trick, Thompson and Agyemang the others. Jadama and Morris notched for the Rams.

A double from Schafer and one from Walsh gave Sevenoaks Town a three-nil win over South Park.

Sittingbourne hosted Gillingham U23’s, and we’ve no idea of the outcome- although the visitors were one up at half time, whilst Staines Town and Slough Town drew three-three.

Stowmarket Town fell three-one as they hosted Ipswich Town U23’s, Lambe scoring for Town, and Thatcham Town held Hartley Wintney to a two-two draw. Three Bridges and Corinthian-Casuals also shared four goals equally, and you can see some images here.

Whitstable Town defeated Marlow one-nil with a goal from Mackenzie, Wingate and Finchley fell two-nil as they hosted Chesham Utd, and that’s your lot!
