A level Wednesday

By Ian Townsend

In our preview, we called it winning Wednesday, so it's probably our fault that nobody won! It was honours even in the Pitching In Isthmian Premier and North last night.

We had two matches in the Pitching In Isthmian League last night, and perhaps because we talked about the importance of three points for all the teams involved, nobody got more than one!

In the Pitching In Isthmian Premier Division Cray Wanderers hosted Leatherhead with both sides desperate for a win; particularly the Tanners, seven points behind their hosts. Well both sides scored one, but only in points- they couldn't manage a goal between them. Wands have produced a comprehensive report, and you can read it here, whilst Tanners boss Luke Tuffs wrote on social media:

'Under no illusions that it’s just a game, just a point, and we played a team that respectfully are in a similar position to ourselves. But today the boys were one, worked hard for each other, and had chances to win it. Just building blocks, but happy tonight.'

The clubs stay twentieth and twenty second.

Into the North Division, and a fine first half performance from Hullbridge Sports saw them swoop into a two-nil lead against Bury Town at Aveley. Luke Hornsley struck first on twenty seven minutes, and the second goal came just five minutes later, Roland Oteniya giving the 'home' side what turned out not to be an unassailable lead. Town came roaring back after the break, and Ollie Hughes with twenty three minutes remaining got his side back into the match, before Jake Chambers Shaw grabbed the equaliser with eleven minutes remaining.

That was that, with Sports perhaps contemplating whether it was one point gained or two dropped despite moving off the bottom, whilst Town move up a place to eleventh- although they are still eight points off the top five.

A Bridge Too Far took lots of fabulous photographs, and you can see them all and follow him on Twitter, here. We've used his image of a rather dejected Matt Rose to illustrate our article- we hope you've cheered up, Matt.
