A South Central- League- Saturday

By Ian Townsend

Whilst most of our sides are in FA Cup action, we do actually have four matches in Pitching In Isthmian South Central today

South Park Reigate and Raynes Park Vale will both fancy their chances of ending the weekend at the top of the table as they meet at Whitehall Lane. Both tied on six points, both having scored six goals, and separated only by the narrowest of goal differences, the sides, in seventh and eighth, could both hit the summit with a win, as the top six aren’t in league action.

The Sparks got back to winning ways in Guernsey on Monday having finally been given a break from Leatherhead, who they had played in their previous three matches. Vale last played on Saturday, travelling to last seasons Play Off Finalists Hanworth Villa and emerging with a three-one win, a result which followed a three-two victory over Ascot United on opening day and which means they are putting a one hundred percent league record on the line.

Thatcham Town will go top if they win and the Sparks and Vale draw. The Kingfishers, who have won two of their three matches so far, start the day in tenth place, and welcome Badshot Lea, the visiting Baggies yet to pick up a point despite some encouraging performances, most notably a six-nil win over Binfield in the Velocity Cup.

Sutton Common Rovers started the season magnificently, but have slipped since, losing their last two and conceding six at Marlow last time out. Rovers welcome Guernsey to Whyteleafe, both sides having won one of their three opening matches. Last season the Green Lions took six points from their encounters with today’s opponents.

The match kicks off at 2PM.

Finally, Corinthian-Casuals are in freefall, losing every match in the league so far and conceding an average of four goals a game in doing so. Casuals will be hoping for something positive to start their season as Met Police come to call, but the visitors will be hoping for much the same, having taken one point from the season so far. That point came on Monday against Hanworth Villa, so perhaps that will be something they can build on.
