AB1 Golden Gloves Awards- February 2022

By Ian Townsend

We have four deserved winners of our February Golden Gloves Awards, sponsored by the fabulous folks at AB1 Goalkeeping

It’s time to recognise our best defences of February! Please note, the outcomes are all calculated on statistics in league matches- and on this occasion we even had to resort to goal difference to come to a decision, so good were some of the contenders.

Here we go:

Premier Division

Margate played five league matches in February, and didn’t concede a single goal. Horsham, Leatherhead, East Thurrock United, Merstham and Bishop’s Stortford all attempted to find a way past Ben Bridle-Card in the Blues goal, and each one of them came up wanting!

Many congratulations to Ben, and to his rock-solid defence.

North Division

Deciding a winner for the North Division was incredibly difficult, and in the end came down to goal difference. Three clubs- Grays Athletic, Stowmarket Town and AFC Sudbury- didn’t concede a single goal, and each of them played four league matches, so at that point we had to look at the other end!

A victor then emerged, and it was the man with the gloves at Stowmarket Town, James Bradbrook. Not only had James not conceded a goal, but his side had scored six, giving them a better goal difference than the other contenders, who were Grays Athletic and AFC Sudbury.

Congratulations to James, and to those who stand in front of him. Congratulations also to Athletic and the Yellow. We only have one pair of gloves to give away but you were also rather incredible at the back.

South Central Division

The outcome was far more clear cut in the Pitching In Isthmian South Central, and our gloves head to Surrey, where the Curfew bell is sounding to salute Nicholas Jupp of Chertsey Town. The Curfews keeper decided that none should pass, and managed a clean sheet in every match, including on Saturday 5th February when he kept out the fearsome forwards of league leaders Bracknell Town as his side inflicted a rare defeat on the Robins.

Many congratulations to Nicholas, and to all who stand in front of him.

South East Division

Last but by no means least, we head into Kent to visit Faversham Town. The Lilywhites are having a mid-table sort of campaign, but their backline certainly didn’t have a mid-table sort of February, not conceding a single goal as they took on Burgess Hill Town, VCD Athletic and Lancing. That backline was marshalled superbly by Patrik Ohman, and Patrik will be receiving a fabulous pair of gloves from Asmir Begovic and his team at AB1 Goalkeeping.

Thanks to AB1 Goalkeeping for being our sponsors. You can take a look at their magnificent products- and they don’t just sell gloves- by heading HERE.
