All change at the top for Whitehawk

By Ian Townsend

Shaun Saunders departs, Ross McNeilly comes in for the Hawks -and Dave Altendorf joins as Assistant Manager

Whitehawk have had an interesting couple of weeks, with the surprise departure of boss Shaun Saunders, the arrival of new boss Ross McNeilly, and the appointment of Lancing boss Dave Altendorf as McNeilly's second in command.

Saunders, who had been in charge since April 2022, started his tenure by ensuring that the club retained their Pitching In Isthmian South East status, before steering them to promotion via the Play Offs last season- and took them to ninth in their first campaign back in the top flight. He explained his departure thus.

McNeilly was appointed on May 21st, more here. He was previously Head Coach for the first team at Dorking Wanderers, after five years at Aldershot Town, where he was in charge of the Academy, the lead coach for the Under 21 side, and spent a long period as Interim Manager of the First Team. He has a UEFA A licence.

On Friday the Hawks announced that recently departed Lancing boss Dave Altendorff was their new Assistant manager. Dave joined the Pitching In Isthmian South East Lancers in May of last year and took the club to unprecedented heights, with a sixth place finish.

He was previously Head Coach of the Lancers during the 2019/20 season, and has since been Head of Football at Ringmer AFC, Head Coach at Newhaven FC and, more recently, manager at Loxwood FC. More here.
