All Premier roads lead to Brightlingsea…or the Bar!

By Ian Townsend

Because of the FA Cup, we have only two Premier Division matches- as Regent and the Scholars host the Rooks and the Rocks

We’ve a rather tiny Pitching In Isthmian Premier programme this weekend, and we’re off to the Essex coast first of all, as Brightlingsea Regent host Lewes. The Rooks are five league matches unbeaten and seem to have clicked into gear- and a win will lift them into second place in the table. Joe Taylor is already on six goals for the campaign, and the last time he travelled to Brightlingsea he got two for Cray Wanderers, on November 16th two years ago. He got the winner in Cray’s home fixture with Regent that season too, so will undoubtedly be shining his boots in anticipation! Regent started the campaign well but have slipped away in recent weeks, losing their last three matches in all competitions and conceding ten goals in the process. They’ll hope to get back to the form which saw them defeat Merstham and Leatherhead rather than that which saw them lose at Bishop’s Stortford last time out.

Potters Bar Town have yet to find any consistency, winning two of their seven matches this season and losing the other five, including Tuesday night’s derby with Cheshunt. They will hope to do better as they host a Bognor Regis Town side who are three points better off but still looking for lift off- although wins against Worthing and Carshalton Athletic would suggest they aren’t far away. Their last four meetings have a win each and two draws, but the Rocks won one-nil the last time they made this journey.
