Ambers get back to winning ways, and Canvey hit four

By Ian Townsend

Here's our round up of a Tuesday night with no fuel- but there was plenty of energy on the pitch!

Haringey Borough knew that they could have climbed as high as second place in the Pitching In Isthmian Premier with victory over Potters Bar Town last night, but as it happened they needed a late own goal just to snatch a point.

The Scholars were our comeback kings on Saturday, coming from three goals down to take a point at Folkestone Invicta, but they were in control for most of last night's match at Coles Park. Ben Ward Cochrane gave them a tenth minute lead, and although David Olufemi equalised for the hosts they were level for only one minute before Devonte Aransibia restored the visitors advantage. That advantage was held until nine until nine minutes from time when an own goal saw the hosts take a point. Borough are up to sixth, the Scholars are fourteenth.

Before Saturday's defeat against Carshalton Athletic, Cheshunt had scored three goals in their previous three matches- and they got back into that routine against Brightlingsea Regent. It was Regent who got the best start, Ken Feyi putting them ahead on sixteen minutes, but Ken Charles drew the Ambers level just before the break. Zack Newton then put the hosts ahead just before the hour, and Charles made sure of the points eight minutes from time- a result more remarkable when you consider that the Ambers played with ten men for fifty two minutes.

The Ambers are eleventh, Regent thirteenth.

Into the Pitching In isthmian North, and we start with Canvey Island v Brentwood Town. The Gulls started the day unbeaten in the league, and the ended the day the same way despite the efforts of Brentwood Town, moving up to third place with a four-two victory- but they had to come from behind to do it. An own goal gave the Gulls an early lead which they held until the second half, when Tom Richardson and Andy Freeman turned the game on its head and put Town in control. Darnell Shakes equalised on the hour, and then four minutes later Conor Hubble restored the hosts lead. Evans Kouassi made sure four minutes from time, with his sixth goal of the season.

Maldon and Tiptree wanted to get back to winning ways after rather unexpectedly losing their last two matches, but instead they lost another! Basildon United had looked much improved in drawing their last two matches, and last night they took an impressive scalp, Luke Hirst scoring the winner- and the only goal of the game- twelve minutes from time.

You can watch the winning goal below:

And here's how boss John Guyton felt about it.

Maldon's Wayne Brown had a different view.

Witham Town hosted Hashtag United, knowing that they could mathematically go top with victory, although they'd have needed to win by thirteen clear goals! The match had only one, and it went to the visitors, Kris Newby scoring from the spot seven minutes from time.
