Away from the Cup, we’ve got the romance of the League!

By Ian Townsend

Ambers could go top, Enfield and the K’s could enter the top five- and we've a battle royal at the top of the South East Division

Cheshunt fans must have thoroughly enjoyed watching the way their side have started the season, four wins from five seeing them start their fixture with Folkestone Invicta tonight in fourth place. Another win tonight will see them top the Pitching In Isthmian Premier Division, and given quite how impressive they were in defeating Bognor Regis Town, Margate, Horsham and East Thurrock United you wouldn’t be surprised were they to make it five from six. Invicta have had a less promising few weeks, winning two, losing two and drawing the other, but are two matches unbeaten and got back to winning ways on Saturday. The one meeting last season between the two saw Invicta win four-two, but this season’s Ambers look a world away from that side.

Only goal difference separates Enfield Town and Kingstonian before tonight’s meeting at Donkey Lane. The Towners got back to winning ways on Saturday after two defeats, whilst the K’s have won three in a row and will be looking to make it four and sneak into the top five.

In the North Division, leaders Tilbury entertain Great Wakering Rovers and will go four points clear with victory. The Dockers haven’t scored many this season- five in all competitions- and have conceded four, so don’t expect a high scoring game- although Rovers have scored five and conceded six in their last three matches so who knows!

The South Central Division has four matches to entertain us, and the biggest is perhaps at Hertford Town, where a win for Waltham Abbey would take the Abbotts two points clear at the top and continue their one hundred percent record. Town, however, look an entirely different prospect from the side which struggled last season, currently in eighth place having conceded only two goals from their three matches.

The Harlow Arena sees the arrival of two sides who need to get back to winning ways. The hosts have perhaps the most pressing need, as they’ve lost their last four matches in all competitions, whilst the Geordies will look to recover from that four-two home loss against Staines Town at the weekend and move into the top five once more.

Northwood have lost three of their four matches so far, and conceded three goals in both of their last two, whilst visitors Ashford Town are in good form, with four points from their last six.

Finally for the South Central, South Park host Chertsey Town. The Sparks have won only one of their last five in all competitions, a win over Northwood, whilst the Curfews got back to winning ways at the weekend by defeating the same side.

We’ve a fabulous match in prospect at the top of the South East Division. Our leaders, VCD Athletic, could lose their top place to their visitors, East Grinstead Town, if the Wasps can leave Oakwood with victory. Town are three points behind the Vickers with two matches in hand, and have managed eleven goals in the process of maintaining their one hundred percent record, whilst Athletic’s similar record came to an end at Hastings United on Saturday. Given Vickers have averaged three goals a game so far, and the Wasps almost four, it shouldn’t be a nil-nil draw. Hopefully we haven’t just cursed it! Match Postponed.

Elsewhere we have a Kentish derby, as fourth place Whitstable Town welcome Hythe Town to the Belmont. The Oysterboys have won their last three matches, each against a side from Sussex, whilst the Cannons will be firing after defeating Herne Bay at the weekend.

Where next?
