Beckenham Town welcomed Chichester City- their fifth Sussex opponent in a row- and recorded their fourth victory from that set of five, moving from sixth to second with a four-one win. They did it without leading scorer Louie Theophanous, too.
Harvey Brand put them ahead after just three minutes, finding the corner of the net, and Danny Waldren made it two ten minutes later, heading home a corner. It took another fifty six minutes for the next goal to arrive, but again it went to the hosts, Jamarie Brissett putting away a Steve Townsend pass, but any thoughts amongst the home fans that they could relax ended two minutes later, Josh Clack pulling a goal back. That feeling of security finally arrived for the hosts eleven minutes from time, as Townsend made it four- and ensured there was no way back for the visitors.
That’s one defeat from their last seven for Becks, who are now only three points behind leaders Ramsgate- although there are only three points between second and sixth.
Down on the coast, Hythe Town left it late to defeat Sheppey United, but the Cannons fans won’t care as they celebrate three important points. The goal arrived six minutes from time, and it went to the ever-reliable Johan Caney-Bryan, who got his eleventh of the campaign as his side climbed to twelfth- a point and a place behind their visitors.
