Bees go Fishing

Former Fisher FC boss Ajay Ashanike takes over at Basildon United

Basildon United have been conducting a detailed search for a replacement for former boss Darren Manning, who left the club for Grays Athletic last month- and the Bees, who currently sit in fourth place in Pitching In Isthmian North, have finally found their man. Step up Ajay Ashanike, former boss of SCEFL side Fisher.

Ajay has been with Fisher since the summer of 2019, initially as Assistant boss before taking the top job in November of that year. His time in charge has seen Fisher meet with a number of our clubs in the FA Cup, defeating Tooting & Mitcham United before losing to Cray Wanderers in 20-21, and last season knocking out Sutton Common Rovers and Sittingbourne before defeat against National League South side Welling United in the Second Qualifying Round- and even that after a replay. This season Fisher gave Westfield a scare before our Woking side triumphed in a replay.

He has a reputation for bringing through young players and turning them into established first teamers. One of his protégés is Jamie Yila, who this season has scored ten goals in eighteen matches for Premier Division promotion chasers Chatham Town.
