BetVictor Isthmian League- supporters predictions 2019/20: Canvey Island

We’re off to the North Division, where the folks of the Island are hoping for a better season this time around.

We asked supporters of our BetVictor Isthmian League clubs to preview the new season, reflect on the old and predict the final outcome. Their predicted 1-20 (or 22) will be worked into a final table which you will see just before the big kick off.

Canvey Island supporter John Exley tries not to remember last season, but is optimistic about the campaign to come.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

We didn’t have much to get excited about last season, but in our opening fixture we were nominated to play AFC Hornchurch in the Isthmian Charity Shield which we won 2-1. It was nice to get some silverware early.

2. And your worst moment?

It was disappointing to go out of all the cups early, always nice to have a cup run.

3. How will you do this season?

We have quite a different team to the one that started last season, so hopefully we can have a good run at finishing in the playoffs at least.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to going to- and why?

I look forward to all the matches, I love non-league football. We have three new teams in the league this season, Histon, Cambridge City who I think ground share (they do, at Histon) and Hullbridge Sports which is fairly local.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Parkside Aveley is a good place to visit. Also AFC Sudbury both have good facilities and excellent parking.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Because of the regional nature of the league we get a lot of Essex derbies. I always enjoy games against Grays Athletic we have a lot of history and the games are always very competitive.

7. What advice would you give to any away supporter visiting you for the first time?

The seafront area is worth a visit with plenty of bars and restaurants. Also, try a walk along the sea wall where there are murals along the walls.

8. Who is your favourite player of all time (for your club)- and why?

Jeff Minton and Steve Tilson were players I enjoyed watching during our so-called glory years, we had an excellent team in our FA Trophy winning season.

9. Who will be in the top five at the end of the season?

Aveley, Heybridge Swifts, Coggeshall Town, Canvey Island, Grays Athletic
