Big Bostik Tuesday!

We’ve some crucial matches tonight. Here’s a guide to the action.

We’ve almost a full programme of Premier Division action tonight, along with games in the North and South Central Divisions- and the Velocity Trophy. Let’s take it from the top!

Premier Division leaders Tonbridge Angels have stuttered a little of late, with two defeats from their last four league matches. Tonight they host an Enfield Town side who rocketed back to form on Saturday after failing to win in their previous three, walloping Whitehawk 6-0 at Donkey Lane. If the Towners were to snatch victory they would close the gap on Angels to just one point- and they may be encouraged by the fact that on the only occasion this season when Steve McKimm’s side have faced another from the top five, Bognor Regis Town, they lost. That said, Angels looked assured in defeating AFC Hornchurch on Saturday, so perhaps their blip is over? Find out at Longmead.

Second place Dorking Wanderers have lost only once in the league this season, and could go top tonight were they to win and Angels slip up. They travel to a Burgess Hill Town side who sit bottom of the table after only one league victory so far- against Haringey Borough at the Green Elephants Stadium ten days ago. This will be the Hillians first match since the departure of Ian Chapman from the hotseat was finally confirmed, and victory could see them climb two places (indeed mathematically they could climb three places, but they’d need to turn around a negative goal difference of 12!).

Fourth place Bognor and fifth place Worthing don’t play, which means that Bishop’s Stortford could potentially climb above both of them- and indeed go as high as third- with victory at Potters Bar Town. Stortford have won four and drawn two of their last six, whilst Bar have discovered a glut of inconsistency, winning only two of their last ten- although they still sit handily in ninth place.

Lewes, in seventh and back to winning ways, could potentially climb into the top five with victory at Whitehawk tonight. The Hawks have won only one of their last ten, and that came on 1st September- and of course they lost six-nil at Enfield at the weekend.

Eighth place Margate could also break into the top six if they were to win against AFC Hornchurch, and given the Urchins have lost their last three whilst Gate are unbeaten in four they should go into the match with confidence- although they will undoubtedly be weakened by the loss of Tom Wynter, who sadly suffered a season-ending injury at the weekend. Get well soon Tom.

Folkestone Invicta will be looking to put right a recent run of form which has seen them win only one of their last six games- losing five- as they host Carshalton Athletic. The Robins have won their last two and will look to prove difficult opponents for Neil Cugley’s men.

Haringey Borough will need to put Saturday’s historic FA Cup victory- and last night’s cup draw, where they found out they would host AFC Wimbledon in the First Round- behind them and focus on the bread and butter stuff, as they travel to Corinthian-Casuals. Both hosts and visitors lost their last league matches- indeed Borough lost their last two- and both are sat at the wrong end of the table on eleven points.

Finally for the Premier Division, Harlow Town will be desperate to get back to winning ways after 4-0 and 7-0 defeats, whilst visitors Brightlingsea Regent will be hoping to turn draws into victories, having drawn their last two matches.

We’ve one match in the North Division. Maldon and Tiptree could go third with victory over AFC Sudbury, but will need to win their first match in three to do so, whilst Sudbury have a win and a draw from their last two and could move up three places with victory.

In the South Central Division Bracknell Town have the chance to go back to the summit if they defeat Egham Town. The Robins lost a league match for the first time this season on Saturday, falling 3-2 to Uxbridge, but their opponents may well be far more traumatised having turned a 2-0 and 3-1 lead into a 4-3 defeat at home to Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday.

Chalfont St Peter are one of the form sides in the division at the moment, and they can make it seven matches unbeaten- and five wins- if they are able to defeat Hanwell Town, as well as moving up to fifth place. This scenario is complicated by the fact that Town could also go as high as fifth with victory, which just shows how tightly packed the middle of the table is at present. They have been inconsistent of late, but a Tom Collins hat trick got them back to winning ways as they defeated Ware at the weekend.

In the Velocity Trophy Second Round Felixstowe and Walton United entertain Northwood, whilst Hythe Town host Bognor Regis Town.

There are also a number of matches in County Cup competitions, which you can see by clicking here.
