Blues support Spencer- and now the Geordies are helping too

Wingate and Finchley support Spencer's cancer fight- and now Hanwell Town are walking to raise funds

You may recall that Wingate & Finchley hosted a pre-season tournament last summer to raise funds to help former midfielder Spencer McCall, who is fighting a rare and deadly form of cancer. Teams from his other former clubs, Hemel Hempstead Town, Hendon and Royston Town all headed to North London, and much cash was raised and a good time had.

The fundraising continues, and it is perhaps more urgent than ever before, as Spencer has had a number of setbacks and now requires treatment which isn't available in the UK. This treatment will cost upwards of ninety thousand pounds, and a new crowdfunder appeal has so far raised just over fifty thousand. The Blues have been regularly publicising the appeal, and have now been joined in their efforts by Hanwell Town, whose staff and players will be walking the twelve miles from their home to the Blues Summers Lane to raise more funds, keeping a promise they made to Spencer's brother Jack.

We'd like to wish the Geordies the best of luck and a blister-free walk, but more than that, we'd like to encourage you to give to Spencer's appeal. He is a fine footballer and a fabulous chap and needs as much help as we can give him.
