Bognor boss Pearce steps down

By Ian Townsend

Jack announced the end of his tenure at a fans forum last night

Bognor Regis Town have announced- or rather, Jack Pearce announced- that his time in charge of the team has come to an end.

Jack, who is without doubt 'Mr Bognor,'has been involved with the club for more than five decades, and has done just about every job at the club after starting out as a player. His latest stint in the managerial hotseat began in 2017, and he has combined his Bognor duties with a senior role at the F.A. and the Chairman's role at the National League. We often wondered how he found the time to sleep!

Assistant Robbie Blake and coach Jamie Howell well step up to look after team affairs until at least the end of the season. The Rocks host Cray Wanderers this afternoon, and Jack will undoubtedly be greeted with an outpouring of gratitude from the home support.

He will remain involved at the Rocks. He told the club last night:

"I'm 73 and old, but I've never lost my enthusiasm to want to make people play football. That is the only pleasure I get any more. I'm the vice chairman of the FA, I'm the chairman of the National League and I'm a director of the Football Foundation -- and the job I best enjoy doing is managing Bognor Regis Town Football club... and that's the job I've just given up."
