Bostik Supporters Predictions 2018-19: South East Division-the outcome!

By Ian Townsend

Back in the summer, we asked supporters from each of our clubs to predict the outcome of the season. How did they do? It's time to find out!

It’s becoming something of a tradition. We started the 2017/18 season by asking our supporters to predict the outcome of our -then- three Divisions. How did they do? Well, if we’re honest, fairly badly!

At the start of the season which will end with the Premier Super Playoff Final on Saturday, we asked again- only now we had four divisions to worry about. So, it’s time to see whether our supporters knew their onions, or whether their predictions would end up causing us tears- probably of laughter. Next, let’s look at the South East Division.

Let’s start with the positives. In truth, there aren’t many!

Bostik South East Predicted Table 2018-19

So, what did you get right? Well, you predicted that Cray Wanderers would turn around their playoff heartache and storm to promotion, and they did. You also were nearly right- one place out- with your predictions concerning Hastings United and Ashford United. You were absolutely right, too, where Guernsey were concerned, placing them second bottom- although of course you thought that would see them relegated, and after the sad demise of Thamesmead Town second bottom turned out to be enough to keep them safe.

Apart from that? Well, it seems that our teams caught out the vast majority of you!

The departure of Thamesmead Town obviously skews the table a little, but otherwise we had shock after shock. None of our supporters even put Horsham in the top five, let alone into second place. One supporter placed Haywards Heath Town in fourth place, only one place out, but the rest of them thought that they’d either be involved in a relegation struggle or mid-table at best. Another side who were far, far better than you expected were VCD Athletic, who you’d placed in thirteenth place but who actually finished sixth, only a point off a play off place.

Perhaps the most drama, however, comes when we consider the sides you expected to be successful. First of all, you predicted that Greenwich Borough would have another good season, and finish fourth. Sadly for the Cannons, that was a pipe-dream. You also thought that the Brickies of Sittingbourne would have a very positive season, but your prediction ended up ten places out.

East Grinstead Town also caught you out, a number of magnificent performances meaning that they weren’t ever in a relegation fight, whilst you thought that Herne Bay would have a far more positive season than they actually managed- although perhaps that was far more about turmoil off the field than on it.

You were, however, only one place out in your predictions for Whyteleafe, two places for Phoenix Sports, Faversham Town and Sevenoaks Town.

So, take a look at your predicted table, and the actual table- which we’ve borrowed from those lovely folk at the Non League Paper- and see do some comparing and contrasting. Thanks to all who took part- and if you’d like to be involved next season, please get in touch via townsendaround@gmail.com and we’ll get back to you once we know who will be in our four divisions.
