Bostik Supporters Preview 17/18: Tilbury

By Ian Townsend

John Heath gives us the lowdown on The Dockers of Tilbury.

We asked a supporter from each of our member clubs to answer the same series of questions as part of our preview of the new season. We also asked them to predict how their particular division would finish, from one to 24- and their answers will be revealed in a collection of Supporters Prediction Tables to be released the day before the big kick off.

Here are the answers of John Heath for Tilbury.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

Outplaying Champions Brightlingsea Regent away from home. A really good side who will go well in the Premier Division

2. And what was the worst moment?

Thurrock away losing 6-1. We never showed up and got a good hiding. It was a wake up call.

3. How will you do this season?

We don't have the biggest of budgets but our chairman does a great job with what we. Keeping the better players is always a problem, so finishing in the top ten- and a good cup run- would be nice.

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to- and why?

Grays home and away. We must win. Also love a day at Maldon and Tiptree as we are so well looked after.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Maldon and Tiptree. Great club and great supporters. A small crowd of us always travel and we are welcomed. Its normally a 12 hour day.

We don't normally get a result though.

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Grays Athletic. Apart from our most successful decade in the 70s we have lived in their shadow, playing and beating them is always special.

7. What advice would you give to an away supporter visiting you for the first time?

Don't believe all you have heard about Tilbury- come for a pre match drink and chat you will be made welcome.

8. Who is your favourite player (for your club) of all time- and why?

We seemed to have good players all through the 70s- Joe Dunwell, Malcolm Harkins, and one of my favourites John Smith- all of whom would not look out of place in today's game.

9. Finally, predict who will fill the top five positions at the end of the forthcoming season:

Maldon & Tiptree, Canvey Island, Bowers and Pitsea, AFC Hornchurch, Aveley
