Bostik Supporters Preview 17/18: Walton Casuals

The latest of our supporter previews of the forthcoming season. Step up Kane Brooker, representing Walton Casuals.

We asked a supporter from each of our member clubs to answer the same series of questions as part of our preview of the new season. We also asked them to predict how their particular division would finish, from one to 24- and their answers will be revealed in a collection of Supporters Prediction Tables to be released the day before the big kick off.

Here are the answers of Kane Brooker, representing Walton Casuals.

1. What was your favourite moment of last season?

We had some great FA Cup moments, and the 3-2 win over Greenwich Borough was one of the best games of football I’ve ever seen. But a 7-0 win over local rivals Molesey a few weeks later edges it for me. Who doesn’t want the bragging rights?

2. And what was the worst moment?

The worst moment came just a week later! After four away matches on the spin, we had a nightmare few days that really hurt the team’s momentum. Guernsey away on a Wednesday night, and Westfields away in the FA Cup on Saturday was a tough one. It worked out to be 700 miles of travelling within four days. The results understandably weren’t great and the following games suffered a bit too.

3. How will you do this season?

It’s never easy predicting this league, but this season is extra hard! Last season saw us play a lot of 'Hollywood' football. The entertainment value couldn’t be beaten, but you didn’t know if you were going to score six or concede six each week. This season I’m expecting the team to be a little more stable and they certainly have the potential to be up there… I just couldn’t guess where!

4. Which matches are you most looking forward to- and why?

We’ve never competitively played VCD Athletic or Phoenix Sports before, so those should be great fixtures to attend. Matches with Greenwich Borough always proved to be entertaining last season, so I’ll hope for that again this year too.

5. What is your favourite away ground?

Guernsey is a great experience, and I've been fortunate to go twice. The travelling and experience on the island makes it so unique, and with a very professional feel. It happens to be topped off by a great stadium!

6. Who do you consider your biggest rivals- and why?

Until recently, Walton & Hersham were an obvious one. Two teams in a town as small as ours creates a massive division between fans - almost on par with the Manchester derby! But after their recent departure, Molesey definitely took that spot! They’re only 10 minutes down the road, we both have a lot of former players and the teams used to play an annual pre-season cup match. Emotions always run high in the game, and we've been given an FA Cup tie with them this year!

7. What advice would you give to an away supporter visiting you for the first time?

It'll be the first season in our new £18 million stadium, so for now just to get down there! The stand will offer great views, the playing surface will be immaculate, and we’ll have a car park!!! In comparison for anyone who had visited our old ground, you're in for a treat.

8. Who is your favourite player (for your club) of all time- and why?

We've unfortunately lost him this year, but Gabriel Odunaike was a class act. He finished as top scorer in the past four seasons, even while seeming to always miss part of the season. Whether up front or on the wing he put in some excellent performances, and a lot of fans loved to watch him play. He broke a fair few club records too!

9. Finally, predict who will fill the top five positions at the end of the forthcoming season:

Greenwich Borough, Corinthian Casuals, Carshalton Athletic, Hastings Utd, Lewes.
