Boxing Day's Ryman Premier review

Ryman League

With the majority of the clubs in the Ryman League's Premier Division opting to play on Saturday, only four fixtures were played on Boxing Day but all were significant at both ends of the table, writes Pitchero's Steve Whitney.

Bottom-markers Bury Town secured a vital point when they managed to hold play-off chasing Suffolk neighbours Leiston to a goalless draw at Ram Meadow.

Leiston would have gone into the top five had they won, but instead that honour went to Billericay Town after they won the Essex derby 3-1 at New Lodge against second-bottom AFC Hornchurch.

The deadlock was broken by Billericay`s Teddy Nesbitt four minutes into the second half. Rowan Liburd doubled the Blues` lead just past the hour-mark, only for substitute Junior Luke to reduce the deficit five minutes later. But a third goal in a six-minute spell from Richard Halle made it 3-1 to the hosts, who moved into fifth spot.

The Urchins dropped a place after VCD Athletic shocked mid-table Leatherhead with a 1-0 verdict at Fetcham Grove.

The Tanners had defender Joe Bruce sent-off 12 minutes into the second half and in the end were made to pay when Lewis Tozer popped up with the Vickers` stoppage time winner.

Kingstonian were looking to re-mount their play-off hopes when they entertained struggling Hampton & Richmond Borough at Kingsmeadow.

However, the spoils were shared with both goals coming within four minutes of each other. Elvis Hammond broke the deadlock to give the K's a 61st minute lead that sub Ben Harris then cancelled out four minutes later.
