Brickies fail to bring home the bacon- but they do impress the Danish

Sittingbourne entertain the Blue Angels

Back in July Sittingbourne FC formed a twinning arrangement with Danish Division 1 Club Fremand Amager’s fan club, De Blå Engle (Blue Angels). The initiative was prompted by ex-Sittingbourne resident Mark Chapman, who now lives in Denmark and who supports both clubs. Mark’s parents still live in Sittingbourne.

The first step was an exchange of merchandise and shirts, however the twinning has taken a great stride forward with 13 of the Danish clubs fans making the trip to Sittingbourne, who laid on a welcoming party at their Woodstock ground. The fans enjoyed some great music from Surrey based Indi Rockers Left Of The Dial and the Sittingbourne FC chairman’s band Marvellous Mo And The Back Line Ferrets.

Both sets of fans contributed to a great atmosphere at Sittingbourne’s game against Haywards Heath Town on Saturday, and even the fact that Haywards Heath scored a 90th minute winner couldn’t dampen the pleasure that the trip has brought to both clubs. The plan now is for Sittingbourne fans to make the trip to Denmark sometime in May, and hopefully a pre-season friendly can be arranged against one of the Danish clubs’ sides.
