Can anybody stop the Robins?

By Ian Townsend

As Bracknell go ten clear it looks almost as if we’re already down to a battle for the playoff places. On a day of few goals, the Robins got seven- whilst Chertsey and Chalfont hit four.

With only one defeat all season and now nine consecutive wins, Bracknell Town went ten points clear with victory at Sutton Common Rovers- and they did it in some style, winning seven-one. It was three-nil by the break, Dave Tarpey, Anthony Cheshire and Seb Bowerman with the goals, and in the second half Max Herbert and Zidan Akers made it five before Connor French got one back for the hosts. Bowerman and Akers then made it a brace each before the end. Bowerman has now score din four consecutive matches, Tarpey has six in his last five, and the Robins are irresistible.

Second place Basingstoke Town had a tough trip as they faced Hanwell Town. The Geordies had lost only one of their last nine, and now it’s one defeat in ten, but both sides had to be content with one point each after Ben Cook gave Stoke the lead on eighteen minutes and Ogo Obi equalised ten minutes before the break. That’s seventeen in eighteen matches for Obi, and we continue to marvel that he’s playing at this level (although the Geordies will want us to marvel quietly!). Chertsey Town have been in magnificent form since the arrival of boss Ian Selley (not that they were any slouches before that), and yesterday climbed to third with a comprehensive walloping of a previously-improving South Park. Two from Jake Baxter- that’s fifteen in all competitions for Jake- and another for Magnus Abisogun put them three up at the break, and although Jack Bancroft got one back for Sparks just after the hour, Manolis Gogonas scored for his third match in a row to make it four-one.

Uxbridge have lost only one game this season, and yet find themselves alongside Chertsey Town, twelve points behind Bracknell with two games in hand courtesy of having drawn three more than the Robins. We expected another draw yesterday, given they were facing Westfield, their hosts having drawn a rather incredible five of their last six, and we weren’t disappointed- but neither side even managed a goal in this one.

Bedfont Sports were having a Christmas jumper day at the end of the runway, and they had something else to celebrate as they defeated Ashford Town two-one. Ricky Wellard gave them an early lead, Darryl Sanders doubled it from the spot just after the break, and although Aaron McLeish-White got one back with fourteen minutes left for the Tangerines- his ninth of the season and sixth in four matches- the equaliser didn’t arrive. George Spiers departed a few moments early after being red carded for the visitors.

Binfield had lost only lost two in ten as Northwood approached, but now it’s three in eleven as the visitors continued their climb up the table. Micah Jackson got the only goal of the match, from the spot, on fifty three minutes- a win which sees Woods up to fifteenth.

Our bottom placed side before kick off, Chalfont St Peter, are bottom no more after comprehensively trouncing Chipstead. Josh Boorn gave the Saints an early lead only for Andy Kabuikusomo to equalise on the half hour, but the lead was restored before the break, Greg Adinna with goal number two, and extended give minutes after it through Shamal Edwards. Ben Gill made quite sure there would be no comeback with the fourth goal for the hosts eighteen minutes from time, and the Saints jump two places.

Tooting & Mitcham United climbed to eleventh with the only goal of the game at Thatcham Town, Nathan Daly with that goal, from the spot, just before the break.
