Can the K’s increase their lead to six points?

By Ian Townsend

We’ve only four matches in the Pitching In Isthmian Premier. But there will be no shortage of excitement.

Kingstonian have had a fabulous start to the season, and after a couple of minor blips in League and Cup got back to winning ways last weekend as they crashed four goals past Merstham. A win at Potters Bar Town could increase their lead at the top of the table to as much as six points, but the Scholars will be no pushovers. They may have taken only three points from their last nine but they came from three draws!

Haringey Borough could climb to second if they could win at Leatherhead. The Tanners seem to be in freefall, having recently conceded seven goals to Bishop’s Stortford, three to Corinthian-Casuals, four to Worthing and four to Margate- but three points would lift them off the bottom and would be a fantastic morale-booster. Borough drew with Potters Bar Town in midweek but walloped five goals past East Thurrock United last weekend, and their strikers will be looking at Leatherhead’s recent defensive record and polishing their boots. The Tanners have won three of the last four meetings between the two, however.

Victory for Carshalton Athletic could take them into the top five. The Robins host a Cray Wanderers side in terrible form, with seven straight defeats in all competitions including a five-three loss to Wingate and Finchley in midweek, whilst Athletic ended a run of three games without a win by defeating Cheshunt last weekend. Athletic have won three of the last four against Wands, drawing the other- with Cray not picking up a win since October 2016.

Bognor Regis Town have the long, long trip to take on Brightlingsea Regent. The Rocks problem this season has been an inability to turn one point into three- they’ve drawn five of their eight matches so far, including their last three- whilst Regent have had an up and down sort of campaign, with only one win- and five defeats- from their last six. Two of the last three meetings between the sides have gone the way of Regent- but the Rocks won the last one, in February last year.
